A special night to remember in your rugby career. A jam packed venue included the President of the Lions Neville Jardine, Manager of Lions Club Rugby Pieter Visser, Lions referees Manager Richard Shultz, legendary journalist Andre Bester, All Sponsors, Eland Exco and players. Lions exco member, the Mc for the gala Manie Reyneke opened the evening and welcomed everyone. A special thank you from Neville Jardine for Alberton paving the way forward in Lions club rugby. The Alberton Rugby Clubs new song ” THE ELANDE “were composed and performed by entertainer Gerald. Director of Rugby Shane Kirkwood thanked all coaches and managers for the successful season.
GAUTRUSS ELANDE DIRECTOR JOINS UP WITH BLUE BULLS LEGENDS
Current 1st side captain and Rugby Director Shane Kirkwood represented the Blue Bulls Legends last Sunday when they took on the Cheetahs Legends. Winger Anton Vlok who also played for the Elande about 3 years ago made some good strides on the wing for the Blue Bulls.

A glamour evening for the 2025 Club awards was held at Ellispark Rugby Stadium last night. The night covered accolades for Schools, Clubs and Women’s Rugby. The Gautruss Elande was very proud to walk away with 3 trophies on the night. The Elande was named club of the year this was a very prestige’s award that was handed over to the Director of Rugby and 1st team captain Shane Kirkwood. Johannes de Lange received the trophies for The u20 Presidents league Champions and the u19 Lions 7 a side champions. The evening were streamed on dream stream live form Ellispark.

CLOSE SHAVE FOR PUKKE IN SEMI – FINAL
In a yo-yo scoring game the Gautruss Elande were fighting till the last second against the Pukke in the semi-final at the Uj Stadium. The team of Shane Kirkwood could of turned the game if it was a bit longer. Playing against a very strong Pukke side the Elande never stood back and matched Pukke player for player. The Elande outplayed the Pukke in the scrums and mauling. For a very young Elande side there are many things to come for next year. Final score 33-30 to Pukke.
The u19 side played against Pukke and the final score 53-0 to Pukke. The U21 side had a hard fought battle against Uj in the semi-final. The youngsters were up against a good Uj side and lost the game 34-24. A very close game indeed. A huge thank you to all supporters who supported at Uj and Raiders.

Congrats to the Gautruss Elandes 1st side, u19 side and u21 side who made it through to the semi finals. The 1st side will play at Uj at 16h00 against Pukke and the U19 side will also play Pukke at Uj at 14h30. The u21 side will play at Raiders at 13h00 against Uj. Hard work from the Exco, coaches, managers and players and the commercial side with all Sponsors paid off by having 3 sides in the semi finals.

The Elande took the field with one thing in their minds its called a win with a bonus point. The score of 71-10 is definitely a record scoring game for the books. The Elande controlled the game from the start and scoring 11 tries to 1. With this win the Elande eliminated Randfontein from the 4th spot and earned them a semi final match against Pukke this coming Saturday. The semi finals this week will be Elande vs Pukke and Pirates vs Raiders.
1ST SIDE GAME STOPPED AFTER 9 MINUTES
Heavy lightning brought the 1st Side game to a halt after only 9 minutes of play. At that stage the game was evenly spread although the Elande made a couple of attacks on the try line of the Pukke. The officials waited for the lightning to clear and eventually the game was called off. This was a very important game for the Elande to win. Randfontein played Pirates over the weekend and earned 5 valuable points out of their encounter.
Randfontein is now 4 points clear of the Elande. The 1st Side game will now be played on Monday night at 20h00 at the Alberton Stadium. A win over Pukke and earning 5 points out of the game will give the Elande the nod in 4th spot. Calling all supporters to come down on Monday night and support the 1st side. A win will see the Elande in the playoffs a position the Elande was last in about 20 years ago.
The score for the u19 was 33-6 to the Pukke. Second side lost 69-12. The u21 side went down 31-16 to Pukke. The 3rd side lost 30-22. There is a possibility that the Elande u21 and u19 will qualify to play in the playoffs.

Currie Cup champions captain for the Pumas Shane Kirkwood had a huge praise for stand in captain Shawn Botha in the Diggers match. According to Kirkwood , Shawn is someone for the future. He led the 1st side to a 50-7 victory. The 1st side is still in running for the semi-finals. the 2nd side had a run away win of 70-5.
The 3rd side had a great win of 49-10. The evergreen u21 side walked of field with a 40-22 win. The u19 side went down to Diggers 42-17.

High scoring games was the name of the game yesterday. The first side are still in with a chance to reach the semi-finals. 2 Star players withdrew before the start of the first side game. Quick changes had to be made. The visitors did put pressure from the start and the Elande could not consolidate to get out from the situation. Final score 59-10 to Randfontein. The 2nd side went down 34-14. Randfontein 3rd side scored 6 tries against the Elande with a score of 38-0 to Randfontein. The u21 side are still in with a huge chance to play in the semi finals and is currently in 4th position. They walked of the pitch with a score of 44-12 to the Elande. The u19 side got a good win and could also put them in contention for a place in the semi finals score 22-12 to the Elande.
STRONG SIDE CHOZEN WHICH INCLUDES A 50 TH CAP
The Elande and Randfontein strengthened their sides for the important match today at Alberton. Stalwart lock Shaun Botha will be playing his 50 th match for the Elande. A lock with huge potential came to the fore this year with lock partner Currie Cup captain for the Pumas Shane Kirkwood. Kirkwood highly rates Shaun as a lock for the future. He is a very dedicated player for the past couple of years at the Elande. Goodluck to Shaun on his 50 th cap.
ALBERTON BOKPARK FULL OF EXCITEMENT THIS WEEKEND
The weekend of 23 August will be a huge day for the community at Bokpark in Alberton. The day will start with rugby between the Gautruss Elande and Randfontein rugby club. These encounters will be important for all sides on the day. The Pumas and the Valke u21 sides will also be in action on the day. The tests between the Springboks and Australia, Argentina vs the All Blacks, all Currie- Cup games and the South African heavy weight boxing fight will be screened on the day. There will be Live music performances before and after the games. Beer gardens and good food will be on offer. A funfair will keep the kids busy from early morning. Tickets will be available online and at the gates. Tickets will be R20 for adults and kids under 18 will be free. Table reservations are also available. The Elande still have 1 game in hand on the 4 contenders for the play offs. They have beaten the University of Johannesburg convincingly 27-19 at the Uj Stadium on Friday night. All the other sides are also standing a chance for the play offs. The 2nd side went down 75 -17. The 3rd side won 46-34. The Elande U21 power side went down 47-12 and the u19 side lost to Uj 48-28.

Due to the test match at Ellispark this Saturday all club games were brought forward to Friday night. This will be one of their important games of the season. this is a must win to be in sight of the playoffs. The Gautruss Elande is still one game behind the other open clubs.
GET TO KNOW THE GAUTRUSS LADIES COACHES AND MANAGEMENT
Coach Mickey started playing touch rugby at school. At that time no woman’s rugby was played. In 2006 she introduced touch rugby at Sir John Adamson High School. In 2008 she started playing contact rugby for the Golden Lions. She then made the Golden Lions Senior Woman’s side. She then joined the Delft Rugby Club in the Netherlands where she played a couple of seasons. Western Province then approached her to play for the University of Stellenbosch. And in the same season she played for Western Province. She then returned to the Golden Lions to proceed her rugby career. A serious knee injury caused her to throw in the towel and ended her rugby at the Golden Lions. The knee injury did not get her down and went into coaching and managing of teams. In 2018 she was named the Lions IPT u18 coach. In 2019 when girls rugby was introduced she started to coach the provincial ladies sides. Currently she is coaching the u16 Golden Lions team. In 2018 she was appointed head of coaching of the Alberton Rugby Clubs ladies. She started of with 4 players and currently she has a base of 40 senior and junior players.
Trynie Oosthuizen the current team manager of the Alberton Ladies started in 2025. In 2016 she started her rugby involvement at Sir John Adamson High School. She was appointed as Manager for the IPTS u18 team.
GAUTRUSS ELANDE DAISYS SHINE IN IMBOKODO RUGBY SEVENS TOURNAMENT
A Senior and u18 ladies sides entered the Imbokodo seven a side tournament at Uj this past weekend. Coach Mickey Oosthuizen and coach Troy Masingi were very happy with both sides. Week after week they are making big strides. Coach Mickey started with these ladies about 2 years ago and was very persistent on this journey she was also a provincial players in her days. The sides are very competitive. In this tournament both sides ended 4th. The u18 side had the following wins on the day.

In the Presidents Cup the Elande u19 side who is playing in this league for the first time became the champions by beating Eldos 31-26. The Elande 1st side went down 33-30 to Soweto Eagles in the final. This is the first year that the Gautruss Elande entered this league due to an overflow of players and to give game time to the players. It is a huge success for the year and will enter more sides in the league next year. Man of the match prizes were handed over by Mr Manie Reyneke the vice president of the Lions and the trophys were handed to the players by Mr Timmy Goodwin of the Lions.
GREAT DAY OF RUGBY AT ELANDPARK
The match of the 1st side ended in a draw with 27 all. This illustrates the small margin between the 2 top clubs. The 2 sides treated the spectators with some champagne rugby. The game was very physical in the forwards with some excellent backline play. A very high level of skill were the name of the game. The 2nd side lost 34 10 to the visitors. The Eland U21 side showed finesse in their encounter by beating Raiders 14-0. The 3rd side went down to Raiders 24-17. The Eland young guns the u19 side stuck to their guns and came of the field as 12-0 winners.

In the Presidents Cup Kagiso withdrew from all games and the Elande earned more bonus points on the day. The Elande showed character through out the season and will bounce back against Raiders.

Due to the cancellation of the Castle Lager Pirates Grand Challenge games the Elande decided to televise the Presidents Cup game against Soweto Eagles. The sides are the number 1 and 2 contenders in the league. Both sides showed glimpses of good rugby on the day. Rugby “comeradie” between the clubs were the winner at the end of the day. The u19 won their game 25-20, and the 1st side score was 37-16 to the Elande. The Castle Lager man of the match went to no 8 Juliun Steenkamp from the Elande.
CASTLE LAGER ACTIVATION CONTINUES
Due to the Castle Lager Pirates Grand Challenge been cancelled today against Pirates the activation will continue at Eland Park. Three matches in the Presidents Cup will continue to be played against Soweto Eagles. There will be 1st , u21 and u19 games starting at 13h00 all three games will be played on the Lood Kleynhans A field. The 1st side game will be televised at 14h40 on Herityage Broadcasting.

Full points were given to the Gautruss Elande for tomorrows encounter with Wits University. All sides will earn 5 points and a score of 28-0. SPRINGBOK FORWARD GURU TO ASSIST GAUTRUSS ELANDE
The finesse and experience of former Springbok legend Ian Mcdonald was called in to assist the Gautruss Elande in the forward play before the start of the 2nd round in the Castle Lager Pirates Grand Challenge. He played in 6 Springbok Tests and 145 games for the Transvaal.
LIONS HIGH PERFOMANCE PLAYER EXCELL IN NATIONAL WEEK
Gautruss Elande and Marais Viljoen High School learner woman’s player Larissa Kriel and part of the Lions High Performance group took part in the girls national week tournament . Lorissa was named player of the day yesterday when they played SWD. She is brimming with natural talent and has a passion for rugby. A future star in making and Springbok selection very shortly.

The 2nd round for the Gautruss Elande in the Castle Lager Pirates Grand Challenge will take place on 12 July 2025 at home. Come down and support the teams. All sides are currently lying in a very strong position. This is a huge improvement on last years standings.
CLUB RUGBY HEALTHY
A Supa Barbarian team who only came together and trained for 20 minutes gave a good display in the 2nd half when they came back from behind and lost 27-24 to the International Kenyan side. The Kenyans is travelling for more than a month and maybe to qualify to play in the world cup. The Kenyans kept the play in the forwards and never allowed the ball to get to the dangerous Babaas backline. Shane Kirkwood again put up another good display and Ettiene Taljaart scored one of the Babaas tries.

The first round in the Castle Lager Pirates Grand Challenge is now completed. After a tough round and very impressive performances all sides will be managed to get ready and in good form for the second round. The next game will take place on 12 July against Wits University. FULL POINTS FOR THE GAUTRUSS ELANDE
Another historical win for the club against Wits University. It was a clean sweep for the Elande and back to the drawing board for the Wits University. This clean sweep must go back about 20 years or more where all the sides beaten their opponents in one night. The captain Shane Kirkwood leading from the front with a general flyhalf Spice Lemotlo with his golden boot with 21 troops behind them steered the Elande to the historical win. The Elande dominated Wits in all plays of the game. The 2nd side, 3rd side, u21 and u19 had good and convincing wins on the night.

Another Varsity contender awaits the Gautruss Elande this Friday night. This game was extended to this week due to heavy rains earlier this year. Several players could not play against Pukke last week due to injuries. The team will be announced later this week. All sides will be in action at Wits games starting 18h15.
GAUTRUSS ELANDE WORKING ON RESERVE POWER
The Elande went to Potchefstroom to take on the Varsity contenders with a reserve back up side. Six of the regular players were rested for this game due to niggles. Playing without Cha Deiker, Andries Coetzee, Spice Lemotlo, Adrian Karelse, Johan Venter and star prop Ruan Smith. The team on the day played for each other and showed character. An easy game for Pukke it was surely not. This was a humdinger of a game which could of gone either way. When the final whistle blew the score was 36-32 to Pukke. This game can be watched on this platform under videos. The Elande deserved 2 points from this game. The second side went down 54-3, the 3rd side score was 50-0 to Pukke. The u21 side were still in the game till late in the 2nd half final score 33-7. The u19 score was 85-10 to Pukke. At Alberton the Ladies and presidents side played in the presidents league. The ladies side won 28-0. Alex Rugby Club did not have a full side. The u19 and u21 got the points of 28-0 against Kagiso Stingers they did not pitch. The 1st side won 24-5.

PAULSEN SHINES IN THE LOUIS ODENDAAL DIGGERS DERBY
The Gautruss Elande made it 3 years in a row by beating Diggers in the Louis Odendaal Derby. Paulsen scored 2 brilliant tries in his 50 th game for the Elande. He was also named man of the match. The Elande led 19-0 in the first 9 minutes of the game. It was a start and stop game which did not allow the Elande to play according to their pattern. In this game the coaches decided to rest some of the first choice players. A very fit Eland side kept Diggers several times of the white line by a powerful defense system. Captain Shane Kirkwood kept the young side together and steered them to a 48-12 win earning another bonus point. The second side won 36-7. The 3rd side won their game 14-0 against a very good Diggers side. The u21 side did not play Diggers could not field a u21 side. A 28-0 score in favor of the Eland u 21 side. The u19 side put up a gudsy performance by beating Diggers 38-14. The Soweto Eagles woman’s side did not have a full side and played a 10 a side game. The Elande ladies earned a 28-0 for the game. In the Presidents League matches Soweto u19 and u21 did not pitch and both sides from the Elande got a score of 28-0. In the 1st side match the score was 24-14 to the Elande.
YOUNG STAR IN HIS 50 TH GAME FOR THE GAUTRUSS ELANDE
Thylor Paulsen the captain of the 1st side of 2023 and 2024 is playing his 50th game for the Elande against Diggers in the Louis Odendaal Derby match on Saturday. He started as a younster as a 5 year old in the junior ranks. From junior rugby till now he played 200 games for Alberton. He played his rugby in the UK in 2023 then came back to Alberton rugby club. A very highly talented rugby player with plenty of pace can fit in at wing or scrumhalf.

LAST MINUTE PENALTY SAVES HOST IN RANDFONTEIN
The Gautruss Elande travelled to the house of pain in Randfontein. In a tough encounter the first half turned into a very close game and the host lead by 15- 14 at halftime. In the second half the game were opened by the Elande and were leading the 2nd half with 24-15. Decisions against the Elande stopped the flow of the game and they could not open the gates to the end. A minute before the end of the game the Elande were leading 24-22. Another decision that were suppose to be for the Elande went against them and the host slotted a penalty to take the final score to 25-24. The second side score was 22-19 to the host. The 3rd side started late due to no referee and lost 35-7. The Elande junior sides proved to strong for the host , the u21 score 40-6 to the Elande and u19 score 20-12 to the Elande. The Elande Woman side went down 19-5 this is a side that improves every week. The Elande 1st side in the Presidents league scored a convincing win over Eldoranions Rugby Club final score 26-8.

The Elande will travel to the west this Saturday for their next encounter against Randfontein. The Elande are currently unbeaten in the Castle Lager Pirates Grand Challenge competition. A historical win for the Gautruss Elande against Varsity Cup contenders Uj. Uj were leading in the 1st 15 minutes of the game by 15-0. And the rest of the game was turning into history and rewriting the record books for the Elande. The Elande started over powering the students in the lineouts and scrums. The students had no answer to the power driving skills of the Elande. Brilliant leadership from captain Shane Kirkwood and vice captain Duncan Delport kept the rest of the team in a positive unit. All 23 players were outstanding on the day. Final score Elande 61, Uj 29. A 100 points were scored in the game. The second side went down to Uj 57-29. The Eland u21 side did not make use of opportunities and the final score 48-41 to Uj. The 3rd side score was a very hard fought battle between the 2 sides final score 16-15 to Uj. The u19 score was 40 -19 to Uj.
MAN OF THE MATCH AWARD OF THE GAME GAUTRUSS ELANDE VS UJ
In a side with 23 stars in the game on Saturday against Uj centre Ettiene “Mot” Taljaart were nominated as player of the Castle Lager match against Uj. A performance of note by him with centre partner Duncan Delport ran circles around their opponents. Their defense was of very high standards. Ettiene played many games for the Pumas and is a centre of high qualities. He was also rated to take his career to higher levels.

We want to wish ” Oom” Manie Reyneke a happy b day. A rugby legend who is involved with rugby at Alberton Rugby Club and the Lions for 40 years. He is currently the President of the Gautruss Elande and serves on the Exco of the Lions.
GAUTRUSS ELANDE BUILDING INTO A FORMIDDABLE CLUB.
The Elande whited washed the Wanderers Rugby Club. All sides treated the spectators with entertaining rugby. The powerhouse 1st side with good leadership from Captain Shane Kirkwood and Vice Captain Duncan Delport and their troops put up a very professional display of as Danie Craven use to say ” football “. The day started with the Women’s Rugby when the Elande went down 54-19 this was only their 2nd 15 a side game ever. Good things to come for this young ladies. The 3rd side was down 17- 10 at halftime. They came back in the 2nd half and won the game 27-24. The under 21 side gave a splendid performance throughout the match and the final score 66-21 to the Elande. The u19 side proved to strong for the visitors with a convincing score of 82-0. The 2nd side started of slowly again and worked their way back with power play to make the score 31-10 to the Elande. The 1st side ran on the field with a special song made for the club which boosted them from the start. They scored 6 magnificent tries to collect a bonus point with a final score of 38-10 to the Elande.
The Presidents League took of yesterday at Eland Park where the Elande entered another 1st, u21 and a u19 side. They played against Inner City. The u19 score was 24-12 to the Elande. The u21 side got the points of 28-0. The 1st side of the Elande score was 55-0 to the Elande.
GAUTRUSS ELANDE ENTERS THE LIONS PRESIDENT LEAGUE
Due to an overflow of players and game time for the players the club decided to enter the Presidents League. This Saturday they will be playing their first game at Eland Park. A total of 8 games will take place today. Games will start at 120h00.
WANDERERS IN SIGHT FOR THE GAUTRUSS ELANDE
The Elande will host Wanderers Rugby Club this weekend in the week 5 of the Castle Lager Pirates Grand Challenge competition. GAUTRUSS ELANDE DOWNING HIGHLY RATED RAIDERS
Travelling to Raiders is not a easy outing on a Saturday. Raiders knew the Eland is coming but they did not know what is coming to them.The day started with the ladies game and the Elande went down 102-7. A start for the Elande ladies in the 15 a side game. The u21 started well and faded a bit in the 2nd half but came back in the last 15 minutes of the game and beating Raiders 25-20. The 3rd side lost 40-12. The u19 drew 19 all. In the 2nd side match Raiders were leading 14-0 within 10 minutes. The Elande started to fight back. The game was very close before the end and the fitness of the Elande came to the fore and scoring in the last minute and beating Raiders 29-28.
Then the match of the day started which was a very close encounter. Up to half time the match was still very even. Good defense by the Elande in the second half and they also played with 14 men after a yellow card was issued. Raiders were launching attack after attack and the powerful defense kept them from the white line. Brilliant managed skills from the coaching staff Jp Smith, Derek Harwood and Johan Terblanche, and captain Shane Kirkwood and vice captain Ettiene Taljart and the rest of the squad were to much for Raiders after 80 minutes. Fitness was the key to the historical wins on the day for the Gautruss Elande. Final score 29-28 to the Elande.
ROUND 4 OF THE CASTLE LAGER PIRATES GRAND CHALLENGE
After a 2 weeks layoff the Gautruss Elande will play Raiders at the Bill Jardine Stadium this coming Saturday. The 1st, 2nd, 3rd , u21, u19 and a Ladies side will be in action. After a good draw against Pirates 2 weeks ago the Elande did some homework to counter Raiders fluent running rugby. Games will start at 12h00.

OPEN DAY FOR WOMENS RUGBY
An open day for all ladies and girls who wants to play rugby were held at Eland Park.The current Gautruss Elande club coach Jp Smit and his brother Ruan Smith are the organizers of the open day. They have clinics all over South Africa to develop rugby. Current women players playing for the Gautruss Elande and ladies from the community attended the open day.
GAUTRUSS ELANDE TO BE NOTICED
A spectacular performance by the 1st side treated the 3000 plus crowd to the best club match so far in 2025. Leading the game from the beginning till the last minute Pirates scored to level the score at 25-25 all. The Gautruss Elande will compete with the top clubs in the competition this year. The u21 side were leading the whole game at one stage the score was 45 -10 and they won the game 48-43. This was also a remarkable win for the u21s. The 2nd side score was 39-29 to Pirates. the 3rd side score was 33-6 to pirates. The u19 side played against a so called national academy side who assist Pirates at u19 level. Final score 87 – 7 to the RTA Academy. The women side played against Phoenix Rugby club and the final score was 49-0 to the Gautruss Elande ladies.

NEW DIRECTOR OF THE GAUTRUSS ELANDE
Shane was appointed Director of rugby of the Gautruss Elande at the start of 2025. He is currently captain of the side and coach together with Jp Smit ex lions player and old stalwart Johan Terblance. He is also part of the Marais Viljoen High School in Alberton set up.

At a gala function at the club last night the new kit was launched for the Gautruss Elande. Traditionally the colors are still with the brown and gold that made Alberton famous in the 70s and 80s. A huge thank you is going out to all sponsors who made this possible.

All 3 matches against Wits University were cancelled due to the heavy rains the past week. The conditions is not suitable to play the game. The game was called of by the officials which can cause serious injuries to players. Both clubs will decide on a date suitable for all players.

The u21 Elande side were invited to play Brakpan u21 in a curtain raiser at the Barnard Staduim in Kempton Park this coming Saturday at 12h00. This will be a curtain raiser when the improving Falcons take on Jimmy Stonehouse Airlink Pumas. Calling all supporters to go out and support the Elande young guns.
ELANDE UP AGAINST FALCONS CLUBSIDE
The Elande 1st side took on the East Rand United Rugby Club 1st side last week Thursday. A squad of about 30 players were chosen to play on the night. The 1st twenty minutes was like 2 boxers looking each other in the eyes. After that the Elande stuck to their basics and structure then the flood gates started to open with the Elande scoring 9 tries. Man of the match was evergreen big Centre Johan Venter that took the field at no 7 for the game. it was a huge gamble from the coaches. It turned into a big success on the night. Ettiene Taljaard also stood out among the backs with Thylor Paulsen very close on his hills. A good performance by the forwards laid the foundation and a good platform to the backs that showed tremendous pace from 9 to 15. The final score Elande 58 and East Rand United 0.
GOLDEN LIONS ANNOUNCES IPT MANAGEMENT.
The IPT youth management were announced yesterday. The Elande are privilege to have 3 members in this group. The Bio kineticist of the whole group is Nkosinathi Ncube who is currently part of the Elande 1st team group. The Eland womens coach Mickey Oosthuizen was appointed coach for the u16 Girls side. The Elande club manager Tamzin Valentine this lady is going places and a big asset for rugby will be the team manager for the u18 Boys.
GOLDEN OLDIES FESTIVAL ON MARCH 15
The Alberton Madalas will be the host to the festival at Alberton on the 15 of March. Various sides will take part on the day. Vintage rugby of yesterday year and players still playing the game of rugby not to missed. Calling on all supporters to come and support the the festival. Good entertainment will be on offer on the day with special packages available on food and refreshments.
ENTERTAINMENT AT IT BEST
During the break and before the finals 2 little boys were playing with a ball on the field. Then it became a game between the 2 boys. The crowd started cheering the 2 boys. Then 2 more boys played with. Then later 4 little girls also joined. Eventually the game got a ref with 2 coaches and water carriers. This was the best entertainment you can get and the crowd sounded like if it was a Currie Cup final. To all these kids, referee, made coaches, the crowd and water carriers this is what rugby is all about. This was a good advert for rugby. Then all involved on the field medals were handed to them by the Lions and Elande.
HUGE SUCCESS FOR THE LIONS 7S
A well organized tournament by the Elande, the Commercial partner and the Lions. The spectators were treated with great rugby over the weekend. On Sunday the last games took place followed by the semi finals and finals. The men’s final were between Uj and evergreen Raiders. A close game it was and Raiders became the champs 2 years in a row. In the u20 competition the Elande Brown side played the Elande Gold side. The Brown side took the cup by beating the Gold side. In the ladies competition it was a battle between Pirates and Alex. At the end Pirates proved to strong for the Alex ladies.
LIONS SEVEN A SIDE COMPETITION AT ELAND PARK
The Elande will host the Lions 7s the 2nd year in a row at the Eland Park Stadium. The tournament will be on Saturday and Sunday. Over 20 senior sides will compete for the trophy. In the u20 competition 18 sides will compete. Nine women sides will also be in action from tomorrow and Sunday. Calling on the community to come down and support the tournament over the weekend. Refreshments and food packages will be available to the players and community.
WOMENS RUGBY LOOKING HEALTHY AT THE ELANDE
The group of senior ladies rugby is growing week by week. Players from surrounding areas are starting to show interest in the game of rugby. The Elande is very privileged to have a huge group of ladies at training. Calling on all ladies from the age of 18 to 35 to come down on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 18h30 and join the group.
TRAVELLING TO BLUE BULL LAND
The Elande will be travelling to Centurion to play their 2nd friendly this year. A fairly new side under the leadership of Duncan Delport will be a good contest for Centurion. The Elande will send a 1st,2nd,3rd and a u21 side. This will be a good eye opener for the coaches on the day. The Elande are building up to the Pirates Grand Challenge competition startying in March.
HUGE SUCCESS WITH FALKE DAY
The day turned out in a huge success. The Elande went down to a Provincial Falke side 66-3. Friendship were made between all the side from junior rugby, Golden Oldie Rugby, and sides from Nelspruit and Benoni. This was a good advertisement for Club rugby. A jam packed stadium enjoyed the display of rugby on the day. The Elande showed they ready for the 2025 season and of the field the Elande is also ready to host some provincial games.

SHORT SESSION AGAINST BRAKPAN
The skies opened last night and stopped a good training session on the Bosman Stadium. The Elande travelled to Brakpan for a hard training session. The session only lasted for 50 minutes. The 2 clubs will make this a regular training night for this season. Springbok Andries Coetsee also joined the practice with Shane Kirkwood showed evergreen skills on the field. A very interesting season is waiting for the Elande.

ELANDE MOVING TRAINNING SESSION
The Elande moved their trainning to President Steyn Laerskool on Saturday. All sides attended the session. Shane Kirkwood with all coaches spend 3 hours with the players preparing for their friendly on 22 February against the Falcons. the Falcons will play a friendly against the Blue Bulls u/21 side this afternoon. A huge thank you is going out to President Stenys for using their fields.
LEGEND SIGNS WITH THE ELANDE
Born and bred in the south of Johannesburg Duncan Delport started playing his rugby at Union Rugby Club. Then he moved over to the Pirates Rugby Club. He played there for several years and also captained them a couple of seasons. Under his captaincy they won several trophies. A tactician on the field he became one of the best center’s in club rugby. His fearless defense and attacking skills made him a legend and a force to be reckoned with. His experience and leadership will be a huge asset to the Elande.
